morning of pain

I haven't cried, as much as I did this morning, in a long time. In fact, I don't think I've been in as much pain since I delivered my last child over 4 years ago. Yes, who would've guessed something as simple-sounding as 'making salsa' would be so incredibly tormenting. Chopping 5 cups of onions is NOT my cuppa tea.

Now last year all I did was chop some fresh tomatoes, add an envelope of all the dried up seasoning and presto, into the freezer it goes. This year, I decided to go totally fresh and get everything straight from the garden, mine and others. It really did not take long to whip everything together but the onion part killed me. This is a terrible thought, but I'm hoping the salsa's not that good so I can go back to the pre-packaged seasonings for the rest of the 'putting up the tomatoes' season. Because if it's good, and it would have to be really good - I'll have to sacrifice my eyeballs again.

While I was doing my salsa prep, I listened to a great message by PBZ - "A Christian in Christendom" - very, very good. That was the only redeeming factor of my morning of pain. Well, that and if the salsa ends up being really good...

Now I heard, but don't know first hand, that if your mouth is closed while you cut onions it won't make you cry. I have no idea if it's true. Something about the aroma or vapors or something.

Thanks for housing my men. We love you guys!

Mitch says that's a project for MythBusters. I'm pretty sure my mouth was closed, I didn't want to drool on the veggies. :o)

We loved having your guys for the night. I wish your Fireball could've stayed with me!

OK, I had it turned around. Breathe through your mouth. Like chew gum or something so you're consciously breathing through your mouth.

Or wear goggles? :)

Let me know if the salsa turns out great. I am looking for a great recipe. Sorry about your tears.

I have the answer! I have the answer! I make a really mean chicken enchilada dish. Since I've used the Pampered Chef Chopper on the onions, there has been no tears! None! We even sent a couple to YWAM Hong Kong to help them in the kitchen...they use alot of onions!
Miss you bunches!Have an awesome day!

Um, I used my Pampered Chef chopper - didn't help. Maybe garden fresh are stronger?

Too Funny! Well, maybe you ought to send it in to MythBusters. We love that show! Usually only have time to watch it when we're on vacation. If worse comes to worse, fill up the bathtub, then you could use the snorkle...while chopping onions under water. Now that's cool!
HA!

Hmm- could you cut the onions and peppers in the food processor...peeling them under running water might also be helpful?

bet it is very YUMMY! Salsa is my favorite food...okay it probably isn't considered food, but it should be. I'd love to come over...hint, hint ;-)

Yeah, yeah...the food processor. Who's gonna loan me theirs?

Supposedly chewing on a toothpick helps. :)

Would you email me when you get a chance, friend? Thanks! I have a question for you.

I thought I was the only one that had such a hard time with onions. I seem to be terribly sensitive to them, way more than most people. My cooking instructor told me once to soak them in cold water first. I have never actually tried it, but I have heard it helps. I know how bad the pain can be.. Not fun!
