God stepping down from heaven?

Wild stuff happens when you decided to dedicate 40 days to pursue Jesus. Sometimes good but often all hell breaks lose and you hold on for dear life until God brings deliverance...and He always does. But last night a major bizzaro thing happened in our tiny little town of 400-ish, something that brought the news crews in today. It all began....

Last night around 10-ish, maybe a little earlier, maybe a little later, a cop car went flying through town to the east. Odd, because, usually when there's emergency vehicles flying through town, it's the volunteer fire department headed OUT of town to the highway or interstate for some sort of accident. We took note but didn't think much about it after that.

At about 11pm, My Beloved's cell phone rang. Again odd, because, though we're usually still awake at that time, the rest of the town has shut down hours ago and we're the last light on in the whole community (well not really but it makes for a good story). But really, for our phone to ring at 11pm is quite out of the norm.

And then for someone from our church to be on the other end is really weird, because, seriously they do go to bed early around here. Anyways, I could tell by My Beloved's end of the conversation, that something out of the ordinary has happened and it's not real good but quite exciting.

So the story is....the town bar's roof collapsed in and the bar is literally destroyed. No known cause at this point, except for the fact it's pretty old. There were just 10 people inside and they exited out the front and back doors when they heard the first crack. Just seconds later, the ENTIRE thing was in a waste pile.

Prophetic? Absolutely. It's interpretation? That's a little sketchy. I do know our church was praying for the bar's walls to 'come down' way back 15-20 years ago before we ever entered the scene. I do know that the pastor before us even told these folks less than 5 years ago that they would see this bar close up.

We're not about destroying people or their livelihood. We're not even about cursing those who...ohm'gosh, have a drink every once in a while. But a bar, and what is stands for, is a hopeless dead-end way to waste away your troubled life. There's hope in Jesus, not in a drink, or two or 10. For this building's physical walls to literally crumble is wild stuff. And it's the mercy of God that got 10 people out of a collapsing building with not a scratch.

As one lady from church put it today, these people (the nightly bar goers) have lost their 'family' and they will need to find hope in something - let it be Jesus and the family of God. Yeah, for real.

SWEET! That it fell, unannounced, AND no one got hurt. Did you all go down and check it out?

Oh yeah. Mitch and Mark K. walked down last night. Then we had lunch at the cafe across the street today - then I had to take the girls by this afternoon....15 minutes after the remaining 10 foot section of front wall fell.

That's one way to clean up the town. I had something similar. When we moved to our previous neighborhood there was a bar a few blocks away. Every time I passed I prayed it would close and sure enough it did. Then a new owner opened and I prayed again the business failed and then a third try and it closed. That all happened in less than 3 yrs. It was still vacant when we moved 6 weeks ago:) God moves when His people pray. May a nice little christian bookstore or coffee shop be built in it's place;)Thanks for sharing.

By the way...wanted to thank you for lunch. :) It was awesome. It's always good to be with you guys. The falling bar...the gal was right about these people looking for a "family". I pray that God would open doors for you guys to draw them in to the real Family. Love you, Blessings.

I have goosbumps! God is so amazing! Our little town has a bar like the one you mentioned, and more sadness comes out of that place than I care to mention. Can I share your story with the pastors of the "little" community church here? ~K
