so I've been tagged

Yes, I've been tagged with a restaurant meme by Kimmie -go check her out, she's an amazing, passionate for Jesus woman. (I'm still not sure exactly WHAT meme means but I know what to do. :o>) With this one, I list my top 5 favorite restaurants.

Well, as I pondered this, I realized that as much as I LOVE to eat, that the restaurants we eat at are mostly 'chain' restaurants. I don't know if that's because we live in the mid-west and anything non-chain is a tad scary or what. So, here goes....

1. Bella Italia. This is a place about 2 1/2 hours from here that we went to just once when we lived on that end of the state. Italian food is my all-time favorite and this place was in a small town but very good.

2. Merrick's. This is a 'mom & pop', home-cookin' restaurant in the town we used to live in. Not much for atmosphere, just a glorified farmer's cafe but great food and great prices. After Italian, my favorite meal is Hot Beef - bread, piled with roast beef, mashed potatoes on the side, all smothered with gravy. (sooo healthy! - not) Merrick's makes GREAT Hot Beef.

3. Macaroni Grill. OK, here we go with the chain restaurants. Right now, this is my fav. I love the create your own pasta option. I get to choose my noodles, my toppings, my sauce and even if I want to pay extra to get some crazy-yummy cheese on top.

4. Panera Bread. (Again, with a chain...) I love the menu here. Breads, soups, salads and then baked dishes for My Beloved. And of course, they do coffee!

5. The Espresso Shoppe. One more local fav. But it's in my 'old' home town and I'm not sure they even still serve my favs. This is owned by an Irish family and one of the gals made THE most amazing scones. I have never tasted any other scone that came even remotely close. My favorite was an apricot scone, with lots of whip cream to dip it in and then a latte to go with. And then if I was really lucky, reallyniceday would be sitting across the table from me. (and K, what was the really good latte there?) Of course, panini's with My Beloved were wonderful too!

So, if you want to play along, here are the rules, which I've broken a little. But, let me know if you are playing so I can come drool over your favorites too!

1. Link to name of person that tagged you.
2. Include state and country you live in.
3. List top 5 favorite local restaurants.
4. Tag 5 other people and let them know they’ve been tagged.

Well after reading that post I am sorely tempted to break my diet. Some of that food sounded so good! I'm a sucker for Italian restaurants and great cafes. And panini...mmmmm...

Sno Cap Mocha! Of which, I ingested one every day that I was back because Mike's daughter-in-law, Terri, was working every morning and she's amazing! Even had scones there! Only choc chip, though. But I still indulged.

Now Merrick's on the other hand....it's a once a year sort of pick for me. (Julie makes the best hot beef sandwiches I think-Yum)

Of course. The Sno Cap Mocha, yum. I like the choc chip scones too - just not quite as much. I'm just not impressed with made-from-a-mix-triangle-scones.

As for the hot beef - never had Julie's so I can't argue with ya.
