they know better, but they don't know God

One of the leaders in our church was sharing a little about the ministry at Mardi Gras this year. He said that the report was that 90% of the people they talked to this year had been 'in the church' at one time. He talked about ex-worship leaders who said 'it just didn't stick'. He talked about a pastor's daughter who 'knew better'.

This one really stuck with me. I believe the American church has developed a generation that 'knows better' but they do not know God. And knowing better doesn't keep you from sin - knowing God does. My prayer is that we begin to know God - and to help people to know God. Religious rules and spiritual talk does not a lover of Jesus make. Encountering a real God, who has an amazing love for us, does.

And this stirs up thoughts of one of the beginning cha[ters of Provocations. The full dose or half dose. "Common sense, cool minded mediocrity never catches on. It undeviatingly continues to say of the hald-dosage-"After-all it is something; even if it doesn't work very well, it is still something."

God fill me with boundless charity divine. THat I wouldn't be satisfied with mediocrity.
