o come let us adore Him

I've really been looking forward to celebrating Christmas this year. Probably getting things done earlier than I have in past years. I want to decorate even this week - which is way earlier than usual.

I hear the voice of many Christians in the back of my head though - "we can't even get through Thanksgiving before they put up the Christmas stuff". Some truth to that statement, shouldn't we celebrate Thanksgiving with as much gusto as we do Christmas? After all, it's celebrating our Godly heritage here in America.

While I think about it though - Thanksgiving is a political holiday, an American holiday. Yes, I'm thankful to God for America - and that I was born a 'rich American'. But that is not the end-all of my life. The fact that I'm American is getting to be a more minute fact everyday.

Very much more importantly I'm thankful that I have been given the chance to be a citizen of the Kingdom of God. That God, in His mercy and love, wants to have a wonderful relationship with me and that He has chosen to use me to help build His Kingdom. Amazing. The God of the universe has chosen me (and you) for His glory.

I read THIS POST this morning that resonated loudly in my spirit. So I can begin the celebration with passion, knowing that I am celebrating the most wonderful story in history. And I can do that for more than the last 2 weeks in December. Oh come let us adore Him!

I'm with you! We squeeze every ounce of celebration out of Christmas that we can get...LOL! Our Thanksgiving is in October, so the holidays don't overlap. I have however heard a lot of Christians gripe about the validity of celebrating Christmas at all. In my opinion, shout it to the rooftops! It's the one time of the year when Jesus is being talked about by the whole world...even if they don't agree...

So what are some ways that you and your family celebrate? Do you have any Great traditions that you just love?

Hi Dani,

Thanks for coming by and giving encouragement and sympathy for little Josiah. He is doing much better now - and trying to get caught back up with his eating.

How is Jaci liking her new blog? Ciara wants to have a contest. We'll probably get it up tomorrow sometime.

I agree! I think its kind of sad that both holidays lose their meaning in this day and age. We make sure to go around the table and each one talks about what we are THANKFUL for in our lives and in each person that is sitting around the table. Its much easier when its just our family though.
