My pastor hubby has preached the last couple weeks on maturity as a Christian. There's a process, many who think they are 'mature', aren't....good stuff.
One thing that really stuck out to me this morning is something he said about 'redefining God'. You can't.....but often we try too.
It's like this, we're going along, walking with God, life is good. Then we discover something about God that doesn't line up with what we think or our experience and so we try to manipulate God and His character to fit our definition of Him.
We CAN NOT redefine God, WE must adjust to him. He cannot be defined by mere humanness, He doesn't fit our little boxes, He is so beyond us and above us and cannot be contained. He is the standard and we must conform to Him. He is God and I am not.

I had a very interesting conversation with a Jewish friend on this topic once. She was trying to explain to me that after the Holocaust, the Jews had to redefine God and their religion to make sense of what had happened...I was trying to explain to her that you DON'T/CAN'T redefine God just because something happens that doesn't fit into your idea of who He is. We never came to a consensus, but it was an eye opener for me!
